Antique orthopedic plate on a fractured distal femur.

The metals used in older orthopedic surgeries were prone to complications and the bone here is infected and necrotic, a condition known generally as osteomyelitis. There is sequestration and involucrum formation.

This is from a surgical procedure in the 1930s.
